The chronicle of global warming and its ill effects are not limited to any exclusive region of the world but throughout the planet. However, even after this, especially in Asia and the third world countries, no such commendable approaches to curb this menacing influence are noticed. But perhaps the time has come when we have to think in a different way. It has come to the knowledge that the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Washington state is set to assist China in developing energy-efficient buildings in large numbers. The program happens to be under the auspices of the U.S. State Department.
This may prompt any one to ask the reason behind focusing on China. The simple reason is that China is the largest popullation country in the world and it is also learnt that in the next decade half of the world’s new constructions is expected to occur in China, if not more. Do you have any other choice in that case? In no way! The same reality has encouraged the State Department to initiate a vigorous campaign to make the world free from global warming and it is helping China hence. In the meantime the very program requires PNNL researchers to supervise a pilot program in two Chinese cities that can help officials to build up stricter building codes that promote energy efficiency.
Well, the U.S. and Chinese officials who were found to praise the concept of the program enthusiastically termed it as the best way known hitherto to combat the menace of global warming and increase cooperation between the two countries. It is to be noted that these two nations are the largest energy consumers in the planet.
China has the second-highest building energy use behind the United States in the world and is determined to make new buildings 50 percent more energy efficient by the year 2010 (as learnt from its official announcements). How long can buildings survive? In general the age happens to be 50 years or more. But the experts say that the designs implemented these days can affect emissions for many years to come.
The program is undoubtedly timely but its effectiveness depends on its precise implementation.
