Energy efficient construction – mantra of US

There is the need of more and more energy efficient construction as it leads to the formation of a better environment and reduction of costs in several key aspects also. This is at present the most favorite mantra in the length and breadth of the United States of America and almost all states are trying to chant these. However a clear and forthright difference between the performing states is being noticed. While many are moving forward with meteoric peed, others are falling behind in spite of their affluences. The best examples in this respect are Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania, although contradictorily.

In these days Pittsburgh has come up and been maintaining its prominent position in the sphere of green building. But the reverse is taking place in case of Pennsylvania. The state of Pennsylvania did start with a great promise but it is found that it is dropping off and failing drastically in respect of the promotion of energy efficient construction. What has led to this debacle? Well, the best assessment has been made by Mr. Ernest Sota. He is the President of Bellevue-based Sota Construction Services Inc. and Chairman of the Public Policy Committee at the nonprofit Green Building Alliance on the South Side. According to him, “There are a number of pieces of legislation that were pending that did not go anywhere last year.”

But during this time a lot of states have progressed a lot. Some of them are Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Virginia and Maryland. All of them, according to Sota, have authorized major green building legislation in the past 18 months. This has created the fundamental difference. What have been the actions of these states? Take for instance Mary Land. In this state the High Performance Building Act was signed into law in April and from that time it is regulating each and every aspect of new public construction and major renovation projects.

The same is happening in other states also. Pennsylvania has to gear up and gratify the demand of the time.
