Do you know anybody who ever lived in the State of Illinois and had to move out suddenly leaving behind property? If there is any he/she can still claim the property, provided that the period of five years is not over. Kindly inform the person therefore, if you know.
Why are all these said? The only reason is that the State of Illinois is, it has been learnt, has become the enviable possessor of more than $1.5 billion thanks to the burgeoning unclaimed property and funds belonging to residents.
What is the reason behind the sharp increase of the unclaimed property? On the word of the state officials, all these property and funds belong to people who left them behind without even caring to inform the concerned organizations formally. They left their residences without leaving a forwarding address with blanks, employers and insurance companies and this is the basis of the problem. In the State of Illinois, it should be remembered, it is stated very clearly, once funds or property have been untouched for five years, they are turned over to the state.
As stated by Sara Wojcicki of the state treasurer’s office, it is the treasurer’s office that has become the possessor of abandoned savings and checking accounts, forgotten stocks and bonds, travelers checks, life insurance policies and safe deposit box contents. Well, the concerned governmental authority has conducted its own investigations and has found that a number of property owners in the database have died or bought the farm. However, the heirs are able to claim their properties (as already said) on condition that they have the legal documents to prove their assertions.
In this regard, in the month of February, the office of the treasurer is going to make known its twice-yearly listing of residents with unclaimed property.
The State of Illinois is a midwestern state in north-central United States and also the fifth most populous state in the nation.
