What has happened to the Israeli war strategy? Is it prone to change the conventional pattern of war or going to introduce a new notion of war in this twenty first century? This question is bound to erupt not only from the anguished and traumatized Palestinians but also from the civilized people all over the globe. The Israeli air force is leaving no stone unturned to crush the civilian buildings of the Gaza City and even the UN complex was targeted by at least three white phosphorous bombs. Well, this is not the end of this grief-stricken story. The following instances may make you ashamed.
The attack on Thursday set the UN high-rise building on fire. What is the amount of loss therefore? According to the estimation of the spokesman of the UNRWA, the conflagration led to the destruction of tens of millions of dollars worth of humanitarian aid, if not more. It is to be noted that the sharp attacks on the buildings made UNRWA suspend its Gaza operations. What does this indicate? The Israeli operations have commenced to exterminate the age-old poise of the Palestinians and also to throttle all their aspirations that have been the basis of their decade old struggles.
The bid against Hamas and its audacity (?) to fire rockets at Israeli strongholds is only a pretext. If, according to many, the objective had been to check Hamas only, there would not have been such unprecedented and indiscriminate firings against buildings of civilians. We must remember that the besieged Gazans have been under constant fire for 20 days at a stretch.
What is the number of casualty therefore? Not less than 1,100 Palestinians — many of them women and children — have been killed and 4,700 have been wounded since Israel started its strikes against the Palestinian territory on December 27. All these have happened due to the unmatched assaults on buildings in the civilian areas. The international community is yet to consider this as a war crime.
What is a war crime then?
