Have you ever gone to Ocean City? It is sometimes known as OC and is an Atlantic Ocean resort town in Worcester County, Maryland, United States. The whole region is known for its picturesque grandeur in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States and is a frequent destination for vacationers. However the city has been lackluster due to the economic recession but it seems that it will retrieve again. How? It is becoming evident, in keeping with information from several quarters, that the property taxes will plummet or go down for the majority of Ocean City’s property owners. Is there any authenticity of this information? Well, if you can count on the appraisals of Worcester County assessment officials, there is. They have stated that this will take place owing to the statewide 3.4 percent decrease in property values from 2005.
Well, the best clarification, in this context, has been provided by Robert Smith, who happens to be the supervisor of assessments. According to Smith, “The market from 2001 to 2007 is gone. What we have to look at right now is not for the market to come back to 2003 or 2004, but to level off, to make sense of what’s going on.” However, this is not all since there are lots of other important tasks which the city has to carry out. The first of them is to bring into balance or equilibrium its budget by July 1 and that has to be without the increase of the property tax rate. The existing tax rate is 39.5 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value.
There is no doubt that the property values in Ocean City have almost doubled in the last 20 years (approximately) due to the burgeoning popularity of the resort town in Worcester County. The city in all these years has faced several ups and downs with regard to property taxes but there is a growing hope that the home values will settle down in the upcoming cycle and maintain their value.
