Sullivan County’s New Year gift – Tax installment plan for citizens

A large number of intellectuals (especially in the realm of International Relations) are often found to vie over the determination of the relation between the State and an individual. They are seen to refer to various philosophies from Anarchism, Utopian Socialism to Marxism but tend to forget the basic reality and they get misguided at this juncture. It is the obligation of the State to take care of the individual and this single factor cements the bond between the two. It’s true that disasters can happen in the social life (on account of economy or political reasons) but the State must come forward at the opportune moment. The absence can lead to confusion and disorder and also to fiercer retributions, if necessary.

It should be mentioned that US, though many prefer to despise it often, is the best specimen in this regard. This has been proved once again in case of Sullivan County. It is a county located in the U.S. state of New York. The common taxpayers of Sullivan County, from now on, can have the option for paying property taxes in installments. This has brought a great relief to the common citizens affected by the brunt of recession. Each year, in the month of January property tax bills are sent out from the County Treasurer’s Office for both town and county property taxes. However, from the year 2009, the tax payers will be able to pay in three installments instead of one.

Speaking on this County Legislators Frank Armstrong and Jodi Goodman said very clearly, “We expect this program will assist residents in paying their taxes by spreading the payments over three months, rather than one large payment in January. In these difficult economic times it is important that we offer our constituents every opportunity to make paying these tax levies easier, and this installment plan does just that.”

This is a glorious approach undoubtedly and should be imitated.
