Emory University eulogizes James B. Williams

This is, definitely, a great way of commemorating or eulogizing the exploits of a great personality and Emory University is showing the way. It has come to the knowledge that Emory University’s School of Medicine building will be named in the memory of Trustee Emeritus and former SunTrust Banks Inc. Chairman and CEO James B. Williams. Emory University is a private university located in the metropolitan area of the city of Atlanta in western unincorporated DeKalb County, Georgia, United States.

According to prudence of Emory, this is the grandest way of paying homage to the illustrious performance of James B. Williams who dedicated 35 years of his life on the Board of Trustees and to the university. His performance and leadership on the Woodruff Health Sciences Center Board, the committee of the board charged with governance of the Woodruff Health Sciences Center was exemplary as well. He was also in the chair of WHSC Board for more than 20 years.

Speaking on this Emory President James W. Wagner stated in a news release, “Jimmy Williams provided visionary leadership through an era of great transformation.” “He successfully chaired Emory University’s capital campaign in the 1980s. During the next quarter of a century, he oversaw and helped secure the capital for unprecedented growth in Woodruff Health Sciences Center research, patient care and teaching, while helping steer the patient care enterprise through challenges on which many other institutions floundered.”

It is to be noted that the James B. Williams Medical Education Building started its operation last fall on Pierce Drive. In this building, which is a novel specimen of modernization, the department of historic anatomy and physiology wings are present with their elegance and was recently renamed for Charles and Peggy Evans. All these constructions and noble approaches have been found to enliven the spirit of the academics along with the students in large numbers.
