The recent attack of Israel in the Gaza strip has ended owing to its unilateral decision but the devastated Gaza city is far from recovery. Everywhere one can see destroyed buildings that include residential houses, commercial mansions and even institutions like schools and hospitals. It is said that it is not even possible for Palestinians to save themselves from rain by taking shelter in any building. The situation is so appalling! When will these buildings be restored? Will it be ever? It seems that none knows this question.
Take for instance the famous Al Quds Hospital in the Gaza city. This hospital also became an easy prey of horrendous attacks and as a result the six-floor building was destroyed. Is there anything left? Well, there are only charred ceilings, paintings decorated soot-stained walls along with broken glass. Nevertheless the ravaged city is getting back the normalcy bit by bit in the midst of these. It has been found that shops have reopened, schools have resumed and friends gather in coffee shops and on street corners to share news.
What is the main problem at present? Have UN and other international contributors refused to help and refurbish the burned-out city? By no means! On the contrary they are ever eager to help but nothing is happening even. Truly speaking thousands of homes were destroyed or damaged but Israel has not allowed building materials through Gaza’s border crossings since the war’s end till date. This has not only demoralized people in the Gaza city but has also put a great question before the saga pf reconstruction.
A large number of people have taken shelter in the makeshift buildings like hospitals or UN sponsored schools. How long can this continue? No one knows yet. It seems that the concerned government is also groping in the darkness. There is no such extensive plan and also the dearth of the necessary fund has plagued the governmental authority.
