Holly Hill firm to get Green City designation

Finally the Third Law of Motion of Isaac Newton has set in the realm of the United States of America. Well, I am not talking of physics but purely economics. Haven’t you got it? What’s the Third Law? Tell me! This law is often simplified into the sentence, “To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.” Nowadays in the domain US a “green wave” or the reliance upon the notion of green building (construction of eco-friendly building through less expense and thus to avert the ongoing crisis) is in full swing. According to experts, the emergence of “green wave” is a reaction to the existent downturn and this again proves the viability of the Third Law.

It should be noted that the “green wave” has enthralled almost all states in the United States and finally it has arrived in Holly Hill, the city in Volusia County, Florida, United States. Its influence became more evident when Holly Hill. Commissioners voted unanimously to take on a resolution to “make every reasonable effort to comply with and support Green Building technology programs and any forthcoming regulations.” But the resolution remains silent on several aspects. It is yet to mention any new building codes or the offering of any incentives to builders or whether developers should have any specific construction techniques.

Whatever it is, the city council is jubilant and City Manager Tim Harbuck has joined it terming the approach as the first step towards having the Green City designation from the Florida Green Building Coalition. Moreover, several other programs regarding this are in the pipeline. There shall be a good number of workshops to look at incentives.

It is to be noted that the process of earning Green City designation from the Florida Green Building Coalition is not easy also. The cities earn points for doing things to promote the environment. A number of cities are found to enact a green landscaping ordinance for local government buildings since it earns one point. On the other hand cities which offer incentives for certified commercial buildings or Energy Star homes get four points.
