Israel’s assault on Palestinian buildings concerns global community

Is another bloody conflict in the Gaza Strip in the offing? The whole world may have had a sigh of relief after the armistice that ended Israel’s 22-day campaign in Gaza but it seems that the issue is being flared up again. This is becoming evident as the Palestinian sources are claiming that Israel is carrying on its air offensives. According to them, the onslaught on the buildings continue with the same vigor and only on the last Sunday Israel Air Force aircraft bombed a Hamas security building in the central Gaza Strip and two other targets in the southern coastal territory.

How did the assault start? On the word of the witnesses belonging to the central Gaza village of Mughraqa, there was the striking of a missile after dark in a cluster of caravans that served as a Hamas security headquarters. It must be accepted that in the earlier attacks there was the demolition of almost 1200 buildings and there is perhaps not an intact building in the region that can save people from rain. Well, there has been no change in the strategy of Israel and in its implementations. There were, as usual, telephoned warnings to Palestinians in Gaza from Israel and that made the people run away to safer areas.

What were the aims of the other two strikes? As stated by Hamas, they were on suspected sites of tunnels along the border with Egypt. Here also the general Palestinians perceived huge explosions as Israeli warplanes dropped bombs on the border, where Hamas operates tunnels to smuggle in weapons, food and other goods.

This incident has not only made us concerned but has brought a question before us. Will there be the beginning of a new war? It seems, that the ultimate objective of Israel is to make Hamas kowtow before it or to obliterate it at the end of the day.

If it is so, can we ask one question? What was the necessity of the truce? Was it a mere pretext?
