You surely know or perhaps have heard of Lamar University. It is a four-year university located in Beaumont, Texas, United States, and is a member of The Texas State University System. The University, at present, is in search of a big fund to finance several optimistic projects and among these the need to build up new buildings remains at the top. It has been learnt that Lamar University administrators and alumni are going to meet state legislators in Austin in this regard. According to James M. Simmons, the President of the University, the focus is on funding for a new science building and faculty development center, therefore.
For these reasons the University is appealing to the state fund to sanction even a certain section of the fund since it is known that the state is not in a position to afford to pay for all of it. In this context the recent achievements of the University is going to play a noteworthy role. As stated by the University authority, there has been a record enrollment of 13,485 students and furthermore the University has exceeded the halfway-mark of its $100 million comprehensive campaign. How is this going to help?
Well, there is a unique process. The state funds universities is based on a rule that takes into consideration the number of students enrolled along with the credit hours taken, among other things. However there are some adverse realities also. The University may have to increase the tuition fee to gather the other portions of the necessary fund. But there can’t be any delay since the need is huge and there has been no new academic building in the University from 1974.
There is the need of another $25 million to pay for a new science building and additional funds to create a faculty development center. While the former would serve the chemistry, physics, biology and geology programs, the latter would provide faculty with on-campus access to technology and pedagogy training.
