Renovation project of Texas School for the Blind close to start

The longstanding demand of the well-known Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, which was built in 1916, is getting fulfilled at last. It has been learnt that the school authority is going to get hold of a fund of $ 68 million for renovation and the money is destined to be spent on a functional and safe state-of-the-art learning environment.

If you give a close look, you will find that the bulk of buildings on the campus have weary looks on account of intrinsic defects and negligence to some extent. According to the revelation of Superintendent William Daugherty, a large number of buildings leak and are prone to floods or have mold and they cannot be maintained any longer. In the school there is the presence of students with multiple disabilities but the concerned authority concentrates for the most part on those who are blind or visually impaired. Is there any permanent resident? Well, students hail from around the state, board during the week and go home on weekends.

What will be the new additions in school campus? It has come to the knowledge that there is a fresh plan to refurbish the entire campus. There shall be the construction of a new administration building, an outreach and conference center along with 13 new dormitories and several new class buildings. There is already a campus outreach center that remains engaged in training parents and teachers across the state on how to assist blind students in local districts.

It is to be noted that the renovation is being paid by the state bond money and there shall be the demolition of 14 buildings and construction of 19 new ones that are scheduled to be finished by 2011. Was there any way other than relying on the state bond money? By no means! It is highly important to refurbish the school, which was established by the state Legislature in 1856 as the Blind Institute.
