What is the best way if a number of buildings in any city are found to be ramshackle and imperil the lives of citizens hence? They should be demolished without a second thought since you can’t play with human lives. Can you? I hope that you will agree as there is no other way. But never consider this as my pet suggestion since a lot of cities in the sphere of United States are doing the same. It has been learnt that Wheeling is one of them where the pertinent City Council has already approved the plan to demolish a series of decrepit buildings.
Wheeling is a city in Marshall and Ohio counties in the U.S. state of West Virginia. The greater part of the city is in Ohio County, for which it is the county seat. Wheeling, apart from this, is also considered part of the Pittsburgh Tri-State area and is the principal city of the Wheeling Metropolitan Statistical Area.
It should be noted that the City Council has fully endorsed this view and a fund from federal Community Development Block Grant money has already been allotted. There are, in fact, two ordinances in this regard. While one of them lets the city spend $36,543 with Edgco Inc. to complete asbestos abatements of several structures, the second one consents to spending $115,900 with Savage Construction to do away with the buildings.
Which are these buildings? They include 2242 Eoff St., 2710 Eoff St., 3725 Eoff St., 4340 McColloch St., 206 Main St., 208 Main St., 435-438 Main St., 601 Market St., 391 National Road, 2654 Riley Hill Road, 2657 Riley Hill Road, 500 N. Huron St., 108 N. Wabash St. and 634 Grandview Ave. Well, there is also a building at 1112 McColloch St. which is only on the list for abatement.
It has been learnt that several other plans are in the offing to make the city free from any danger. We wish the City Council every success.
