Energy Star buildings earning greater successes

There was a time when people used to scoff at or laugh out of court the concept of energy efficient Energy Star buildings and used to consider it as an alien concept. But no more. First of all days have changed and the egress of the worldwide recession and its nasty effects have made the concept of energy efficient Energy Star buildings more prominent than ever before. Well, if you want to have a glimpse of its progression, you shall have to look towards the domain of the United States of America.

Take for instance Los Angeles and San Francisco, the two premier US cities. According to an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) league table of US cities, both of these cities remain at the top of the chart with the most energy efficient Energy Star buildings in 2008. What is the percentage of commercial buildings and manufacturing facilities at present? In accordance with the latest studies, both of commercial buildings and manufacturing facilities at this time account for almost half of US energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson commented on this stating, “Energy Star buildings typically use 35% less energy and emit 35% less greenhouse gases than average buildings.”

What is the rate of progression in that case? Well, according to the recently concluded studies, they are impressive and gradually this concept of energy efficient building is earning the conviction of populace. It is worthwhile to mention, in this context, only on the last year more than 3300 non-domestic buildings that included schools, hospitals, public buildings, offices and stores – and manufacturing plants were granted an Energy Star label. What has the rate of profit been?

As stated by the EPA, the increase has saved more than $1 billion in utility bills and 7 million tons of CO2. It should be remembered that in the realm of the United States of America, there are over 6000 buildings and commercial plants, at present, that have earned an Energy Star label. Other leading cities like Houston, Washington DC, Dallas-Fort Worth have also figured in the list of top ten.
