Well, this content may be astounding to you but if you want to know the reality, you should proceed towards Idi-Araba area of Lagos, Nigeria. A four storey building collapsed in the region but the state government has come forward and confirmed that it would acquire site of the building along the lines of its decision to implement building laws of the state. It was Barrister Bamidele Opeyemi, state commissioner for information and strategy, who made the revelation in Lagos while reacting to the horrible incident.

According to him, there is nothing new in this. There is the presence of several instances of similar kind and in the past one year the state attained sites of buildings that collapsed all over the state.

Speaking on this, he stated emphatically, “We have not only done it to individuals but also to Federal Government that owns the Bank of Industry Building, and if we have gone that far to implement the law, we wouldn’t have any reason to bend the rules or shy away from implementing the same law that was applied to other people.”

Nevertheless, he also made it clear that apart from the government landlords across the state must adopt prominent roles. They would have to understand the importance of adhering to building and physical planning laws. What’s more the faults of various quarters of society behind the collapse of any single building could not be overlooked.

However, he was found to be stern when he mentioned that owners of defective buildings would voluntarily tear down defective buildings.
