Caterpillar Financial Center, Tennessee – first commercial building to become LEED certified

It feels great to state that the Caterpillar Financial Center in Nashville, capital of the state of Tennessee; located in the north central part of the state on the Cumberland River, has been awarded for its outstanding activities. The Center has been awarded gold certification for an existing building under the aegis of U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program.

What does the bestowal of the certificate indicate? The presentation of the esteemed certificate indicates that the center is the first building in the Caterpillar family and also the first privately owned, existing commercial building in Tennessee to become LEED certified. It is to be noted that the gold certification is the second highest rating in the LEED system.

What made the Caterpillar Financial Center triumph? Well, in this context the credit goes to SSRCx. SSRCx happens to be a Nashville-based firm that specializes in design, construction and operation of green buildings. The firm became instrumental in providing LEED facilitation services for the project.

Speaking on this Cat Financial President Kent Adams states in clear terms, “Caterpillar Financial, along with Caterpillar Inc., strives to be a good steward in the environmental arena.” “Successfully identifying and managing our environmental impact protects the environment we all live in, makes good business sense and is the right thing to do for our community, employees, customers and shareholders.”

Are you desirous to know the secrets that helped the Center to accomplish this venerated award? The first success is that the building is concentrated in diminishing use of electricity and it does the same by 6 percent. Apart from this it has succeeded in reducing use of water and solid waste by 22 percent and 49 percent respectively.

On the other hand the Center has its personal recycling and composting program that has also helped it to a great extent. Last of all, the company has formed a sustainability committee with employees to sustain progress.

How do you feel now?
