New Commercial Real Estate Energy Alliance appears

A new approach in the realm of real estate has come to the fore. Well, this time the initiative has been taken by the U.S. Department of Energy. The governmental department along with 19 commercial real estate companies has introduced the Commercial Real Estate Energy Alliance. What is the basic objective of this new alliance? The main objective, it has been found, is to connect building owners to the latest efficiency research and technologies from the laboratories of the agency.

Who are the partners in this alliance? They do include CB Richard Ellis, Cushman & Wakefield, Grubb & Ellis, Hilton Hotels Corp., Jones Lang LaSalle, MGM Mirage, Transwestern, U.S. General Services Administration, USAA Real Estate Company, The Walt Disney Company, Wyndham Hotel and Resorts, American Hotel and Lodging Association, American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Building Owners and Managers Association, Illuminating Engineering Society of North America, International Council of Shopping Centers, National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, and the Real Estate Roundtable.

According to a number of studies, commercial buildings involve in the region of 18 percent of the country’s energy consumption. Nevertheless, the commercial holdings, as per the same studies, represent a large opportunity in the reduction of daily usage. As a result, it is the brainchild of U.S. Department of Energy and hence the best practices will be shared. What’s more, as stated by the conviction of DOE, the alliance could play the esteemed role of an industry voice to promote more energy efficient equipment from the nation’s building materials suppliers.

It has to be stated that that this is DOE’s second real estate-focused alliance and in the newly-formed Retailer Energy Alliance formed on the last year there were companies like Wal-Mart, Target and Macy’s. Now both of these are part of the DOE’s Net-Zero Energy Commercial Building Initiative targeting zero-energy commercial buildings by 2025.

Speaking in this Scott Hine, acting program manager of DOE’s Building Technologies Program, said in a statement, “The deployment of new energy efficient technologies and adoption by both public and private sectors are vital to achieving substantial change in building energy use throughout the U.S.”
