North Desoto High School looking towards local residents for buildings

North Desoto High School is a prominent school in City Of Stonewall, which is a part of De Soto County, Louisiana, United States. The school is known for serving 9th through 12th Grade students and apart from this is eligible for participating in state & federal Title I programs. What is the present activity of the school students at present? They are quite busy in taking a cyber security course and are the only high school students in the state in this regard. What’s more, it is expected that more such courses will be freely available once the school has the space to expand class offerings through a proposed math, science and engineering building. Can this be ever true? Well, the school officials seem to be quite optimistic.

How will this be available? Well, they, it has been found, are banking on voters, who live in DeSoto School District No. 2, which includes the north end of the parish, that can have their say Saturday on a tax increase to fund the new construction. It has come to the knowledge that the North Desoto High School Board is in quest of a $7 million bond proposal payable through an estimated 3.61-mill property tax for up to 25 years.

The concerned school officials consider that extra space is required to provide accommodation to new programs being introduced by means of the nationally recognized Pathway to Excellence, a nonprofit program that integrates math, science, language arts and technology to encourage students to learn about technology and become aware of careers in the areas of science, technology, mathematics and engineering. On the other hand, Northwestern State University is coordinating the program through the Louisiana Department of Education and participating school districts. NDHS received a $50,000 grant to implement the program.

Speaking on this Math Department head Robin Cornet said, “We’ll have to find places to teach it the first two years.” In addition Cornet said of the introductory courses only after learning construction of the math, science and engineering building, if approved by voters, would take at least two years.
