Real estate sector companies getting prominence increasingly

No one can deny that recognitions of notable performances publicly are imperative and they also stimulate organizations to work earnestly for more successes. This fervor came to the fore again when a number of nation’s most energy-conscious commercial real estate firms were accredited in northwest Washington, DC recently. What was the criterion of this recognition? The organizations were selected for their contributions to ENERGY STAR, the far-reaching, government-sponsored energy efficiency program.

Who were the distinguished winners then? Well, there were, in fact, many. Among them the representatives of the commercial property industry included Building Owners & Managers Association (BOMA) International, Hines, Transwestern and USAA Real Estate Co. All of them achieved the ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award. On the other hand Akridge, CB Richard Ellis and Kennedy Associates Real Estate Investment Advisors got Partner of the Year Award honors.

Well, there were also winners like Marriott International, CoStar Group, TIAA-CREF and the energy management firm Advantage IQ. Though they are not real estate companies (as per the definition), they became victorious on account of commercial real estate-related initiatives. It is to be noted, that altogether 89 organizations were honored. Nevertheless, it was witnessed that the winners were distinctly dissimilar and consisted of utilities, retailers, grocery store chains, local government agencies, manufacturers and school districts along with others like hard-hit auto and homebuilding sectors.

Speaking on this Lisa P. Jackson, the EPA administrator, said in a statement announcing the winners, “These honorees have stepped up to lead the way in energy efficiency and environmental protection.”

Now there is a question. It is being found that the commercial property sector is becoming prominent increasingly at the awards ceremony each year and this leads to an extensive difference between it and others. What is the basic reason? It should be kept in mind that the real estate sector is taking a more significant role in efforts to raise awareness and combat climate change.
