Building and Construction Trades Department’s Conference narrates US working class’ aspirations

If any economy gets jeopardized, each and every person, irrespective of class, gets affected. The condition of the United States of America is almost the same and for this reason its working class is looking ahead for the refurbishment of the national economy. All these came to fore through the 2009 Legislative Conference of the Building and Construction Trades Department and nearly 2,800 national, state and local leaders of America’s Building Trades Unions did participate.

It should also be noted that the Building and Construction Trades Department introduces a brand re-vitalization and marketing effort that is constructed upon the fundamental nature of a new brand identity for America’s Building Trades Unions that proclaims “Value on Display. Every Day.” What is the basic intention of this new brand re-vitalization program? Well, it looks for ways to do away with the out-of-date, and negative, perceptions and stereotypes that has been dominating the minds of owners, contractors, lawmakers, the media, and the general public for long.

The conference session became emboldened by the Keynote Address of Building Trades President Mark H. Ayers, who laid emphasis on the significance of the conference’s theme of “One Country…One Purpose…One Movement.” Apart from this, Ayers also equated the advent of the Obama Administration with the commencement of a new era of success and growth for America’s union construction industry.

Commenting on this Ayers said, “From project labor agreements…to prevailing wages…to our apprenticeship and training infrastructure.” “The Obama Administration instinctively understands that unions aren’t one of the things that’s wrong about America; we’re one of the things that’s right about America. And this Administration understands something else too: that our nation cannot have a strong, growing middle-class without a strong, growing labor movement.”

The session also remained witness to the presence of US Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis, Congressman Neil Abercrombie (D-HI), Congressman Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ) and Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
