Have you ever had a glimpse of the ancient Roman Coliseum either though picture or in person? The Roman Coliseum, is an elliptical amphitheatre in the center of the city of Rome, Italy, the largest ever built in the Roman Empire. It is one of the greatest works of Roman architecture and Roman engineering and speaks of the eloquence of that age still. The building is regarded as the ideal spokesman of the regal empire so far and this notion is not confined to any single nation.
Truly speaking, this has been the popular mindset in the majority of nations and almost all empires did build edifices that could defy time or age. Should they or any other similar be sold to refurbish the falling economy? Whatever may be your reason against this, state of Arizona is not ready to heed to this and is selling the buildings at the heart of its state legislature.
The Grand Canyon state seems to be desperate as this appears to be the only way to refurbish its declining economy. Following footsteps of other recession-battered states, it is set to sell two 50-year-old buildings, home to Arizona’s State Senate and House of Representatives.
Nevertheless, there are enough justifications as well. “There are really no good options to get out of this mess that anyone’s happy about,” said Kevin McCarthy, a longtime Arizona resident and the president of the Arizona Tax Research Association (ATRA), a Phoenix-based finance policy group. “In a normal time period, as a taxpayer organization, it would be an understatement to say we’d be strongly opposed to something like this,” McCarthy said. “But in Arizona these days, there’s nothing normal.”
“States are having to make some extremely difficult decisions in light of continuing declining revenues,” said Todd Haggerty, a research analyst with the National Conference of State Legislatures. “A lot of states are looking at their third or fourth of year of projected budget gaps. You can only cut so much before you have to start finding other sources of revenue.”
But we have on question. Can there be any other way? If not, which things would come next? Lingerie or even cigarette holders?
