State-run institutions should make more real estate investments in Luanda

Whatever may be the intentions of proponents of market economy or the economy that relies chiefly on market forces to allocate goods and resources and to determine prices, the role of State is undeniable and this is best found during any catastrophe. Don’t you think so? The ongoing downturn and its brunt have proved the same yet again. State has been compelled to attain the center stage so as to save the United States of America from further perils and has also come out with a bailout package.

Well, USA is a mere example and lots of countries, at present, are witnessing the same episode and one of them is certainly Angola, republic in southwestern Africa on the Atlantic Ocean. What role is being played there then? The Deputy Governor of Luanda for the technical sphere, Bento Soito, has stated the same in a precise manner. He recently said that state-run and private institutions must adopt the task of making greater investments and there is no other way in the densely populated Luanda.

According to the Deputy Governor, these investments should be made in the sectors of real estate, trade, industry and roads, among others. This statement came out at the Talatona Conventions Centre during the provincial conference on urbanisation and housing, part of the first panel under the topic “Structuring Plans of Luanda Province”.

He said very clearly, “Due to being our economic, political and administrative capital after various years of war, Luanda has been assuming the responsibility of hosting a larger part of the Angolan population.”

He also stated that this happened for the reason that Luanda received people who were running away from the armed conflict that has already ended, and because its infrastructures are better in comparison to the rest of the world.

As per him, the years 2011 or 2012 should be the target to lessen this situation, because of current investments, with highlight to the installing of thermal sub-stations in some districts.
