New Jersey to have $6.7 million in federal stimulus funding

New Jersey, eminent mid-Atlantic state on the Atlantic and also one of the original 13 colonies in the realm of USA, is going to add new feathers to its colorful hat since it, as per federal and state officials, will receive $6.7 million in federal stimulus funding for highway, mass transit and energy efficiency projects. It is to be noted that the economic recovery funding consists of $3.45 million for the U.S. General Services Administration in order to lessen energy consumption and advance the indoor air quality at the Peter Rodino Federal Building in Newark.

NJ Transit, on the whole, will obtain more than $3 million for the renewal of the Morristown train station and construction of a new station in Garfield; the package includes almost $500,000 for enhanced traffic safety measures as well.

It has also been found that the financial support for the Rodino building happens to be a down payment on $146 million the GSA is to receive in federal stimulus money so as to transform the federal office tower into a high-performing green energy facility. It is the fourth largest green-energy grant in the nation under the economic recovery package.

Speaking on this, said Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), who declared the funding outside the Rodino building yesterday morning, said, “This project is an environmental and economic winner.” “By improving the design and energy efficiency of federal buildings like this one in Newark, the federal government is stepping up to lead in the fight against global warming,” said Lautenberg.

The revered Senator is a member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee who wrote the federal law enacted two years ago to develop the energy efficiency of new and existing federal office buildings.

Lautenberg spokesman Caley Gray stated categorically work on the Rodino building is likely to begin next spring, but he did not know when the rest of the stimulus funding would arrive.
