US real estate sector resolute to banish curse of smoking

Perhaps this is the boldest initiative that can be taken ever against the saga of smoking. In general, New York City has become more averse to smoking than ever before thanks to the acceleration of the movement to ban smoking in and around the largest city in US. Hence, it is really a trying time for avid smokers as no place seems to remain immune. They can’t smoke in restaurants or bars and are likely to be banished from public beaches and parks before long. Where can they go then? Well, even a few days back own rooms used to be the best refuge for smokers. They could do everything they like including smoking cigarettes, raw tobacco or even marijuana. But no more!

Am I dreaming? Perhaps not! Now the efforts are rapidly expanding into the living room. Lots of landlords are being perceived to do all things to stop smoking in their apartment buildings, telling soon-to-be tenants they can be evicted if they light up in them. If you are skeptical still, information in the following lines may clear the picture.

Take for instance Related Companies. Related Companies, as said by company officials, only in this month, is going to banish smoking at some of its downtown apartment buildings on account of health concerns about secondhand smoke. Smokers who already live in any of these buildings will not be affected, according to Jeff Brodsky, a president of Related, which is a national developer with 17 buildings in Manhattan.

However any entrant who is also a smoker will not be entertained in any way. Even if he/she continues to smoke elsewhere, the person must promise not to smoke at home. Kenbar Management, a local developer, is going a step further. When its new project, 1510 Lexington Avenue, opens in December, smoking will be banned in all 298 units, as well as private and shared terraces.
